Potensi bencana Gunung Api Iya, Kabupaten Ende, Nusa Tenggara Timur

Gunung Iya di Kabupaten Ende merupakan salah satu gunung api paling selatan di Pulau Flores, termasuk bagian dari jalur vulkanik Banda. Pulau Flores sendiri mempunyai 11 gunung api aktif dan sejumlah kerucut gunung api tidak aktif. Kaki bagian utara Gunung Iya berjarak 1 km dari tepi selatan Kota Ende. Adanya Gunung Meja dan Gunung Roja sebagai penghalang, dan bukaan kawah aktif (K2) yang mengarah ke Laut Sawu di selatannya, mengakibatkan kegiatan letusan Gunung Iya tampaknya tidak membahayakan Kota Ende secara langsung. Pada erupsi terdahulu, semua aliran piroklastika dan material lainnya yang dierupsikan arahnya mengalir ke laut, tetapi karena jarak horizontal antara Gunung Iya dan Kota Ende cukup pendek, lontaran material erupsi dapat membahayakan Kota Ende, terutama bagian selatan. Sebuah rekahan telah berkembang di sekeliling kawah aktif (K2) Gunung Iya, yang mengindikasikan bahwa lokasi tersebut merupakan suatu zona lemah di dalam gunung api, sehingga memungkinkan terjadinya longsoran besar ke arah laut dan timbulnya tsunami apabila Gunung Iya erupsi.

ABSTRACT
Mount Iya strato volcano in Ende Regency is one of the most southern volcano on the Flores Island, is part of Banda arc. Flores island itself has 11 active volcanoes and several non active volcanic cones. The northern foot of the volcano is only about 1 km away from the southern outskirts of Ende City. The presence of Mount Meja and Mount Roja as the barrier, and the orientation of the active crater (K2) which is facing southward to Sawu sea in the south part of the volcano, the highly explosive eruption of Iya volcano may not directly endanger the city of Ende. Most pyroclastic flows of previous eruptions and other eruptive material emplaced into the sea, but due to a short horizontal distance between Mount Iya and Ende City, the ejected rock fragments can endanger the city of Ende especially its southern parts. A crack has developed around the active crater (K2) of Iya volcano. It seems that the crack indicates the presence of major weakness within the volcano, therefore a tsunami generating giant landslide may occur when Iya volcano erupts in the future.
